Conventional solid-state light sources utilize plastic diffusers and/or plastic waveguides to diffuse and spread the light emitted from the high brightness pinpoint LEDs. These materials are fossil based and therefore are not sustainable materials. The plastics used in these sources are not recyclable and will become brittle, harden, and discolor with age, affecting lighting performance. They are also flammable and produce highly toxic fumes when burned.
Airelight™ luminaires contain no plastics or other fossil-based materials and are made from a truly sustainable material: Aluminum - the third most abundant element in the Earth’s crust.
Infinitely recyclable and highly durable, Aluminum is 100% recyclable and retains its properties indefinitely. Aluminum is one of the only materials in the consumer disposal stream that more than pays for the cost of its own collection.
