Project Spotlight: Innovative Lighting for Schools

Project Spotlight: Shoreline Junior High School, Layton, Utah
Airelight™ Linear SC 1.0 Directly Attached to T-Bar Grid
Architect: VCBO Architecture

An innovative school deserves innovative lighting. VCBO, the architecture firm behind some of the most cutting edge, sustainable schools, specified Airelight™ Linear SC Luminaires for this junior high. The unique installation demonstrates the flexibility of design available with Airelight™ Linears. Rather than installing the linear lights along the standard T-Bar running parallel to the ceiling tiles, additional main runners were secured diagonally across the tiles and Airelight™ Linear SC Luminaires were directly attached to those lines. The effect is eye catching and sure to inspire student creativity.

International Living Future Institute's
Living Building Challenge and Declare Program: Understanding the Basics

What is the Living Building Challenge?
The ILFI's Living Building Challenge is the most rigorous sustainable building certification program. Its regenerative design framework enables the creation of spaces that give more than they take.

What is the Declare program?
Declare offers a "nutrition label" for building products identifying where a product comes from, what it is made of and where it goes at the end of its life. The program is designed to expand transparency in the building market and shape a healthier, more sustainable environment for all.

What are the three declaration status designations?

LBC Red List Free - The most stringent of designations. 100% of ingredients are disclosed and product does not contain any Red List ingredients. Airelight™ Luminaires fall under this category as seen on the Declare Label shown. No other lighting product can currently claim this distinction.

LBC Compliant - At least 99% of ingredients are disclosed. Product may contain Red List ingredients that fall under an LBC Exception.

Declared - 100% of ingredients are disclosed, but product contains one or more Red List ingredients not covered by an LBC Exception.
