OVUUD Finger Lamp with Airelight Linear

A custom handmade lighting design company, OVUUD™, found Airelight™ LED Ceramic Luminaires offered the ability to design and make wood lamps that maintained an extremely low-profile. Airelight™ Linear ES 0.5 and 1.0 Luminaires were embedded directly into bent wood laminate, without any diffuser, resulting in the desired lamp aesthetic.

Airelight™ Linear ES 0.5 Custom Unistrut® Channel Pendants

To achieve low bay aisle lighting in a data center, Airelight™ Linears were linked together and magnetically attached to Unistrut® channel to create custom pendants. The Airelight™ Linears provide a highly uniform distribution of light throughout the space. Airelight™ LED Ceramic Luminaires offer a low voltage DC lighting solution that substantially reduces the building's energy use over conventional lighting fixtures. At this data center, energy reduction techniques are a top priority. Installing Airelight™ Luminaires helps reduce unnecessary power consumption while giving the lighting a custom, sleek, industrial look.

Airelight™ Linear ES 0.5 U-Channel Surface Mounted, Backlighting Milk Plexiglass

Anicka Yi, a conceptual artist, was awarded the Hugo Boss Prize. Goldeneye® was pleased to have Airelight™ involved in the project. To showcase the bacteria the artist intended to grow as part of the exhibition, a cube of milk plexiglass needed backlighting. Airelight™ Linear ES 0.5 Luminaires were U-Channel surface mounted providing a thin profile and delivering the desired color temperature.

Airelight™ Linear SC 1.0 Direct Attachment to T-Bar Grid

A University recently updated a classroom's ceiling lighting with Airelight™ Luminaires. Sleek, low-profile Airelight™ Linears replaced large troffer fixtures to provide exceptionally uniform light throughout the large classroom. Airelight™ Linear SC 1.0 luminaires were easily incorporated into the pre-existing ceiling tile grids. The ability to directly attach the linears magnetically allows for greater design versatility as well as efficient installation time. Airelight™ Linears are also infinitely dimmable which was not an option with the previous troffer lighting.

Airelight™ Linears offer an ultra thin profile allowing them to blend into, and effectively disappear on, the ceiling grid. Airelight™ linears are the only lighting able to do this. Linears can be installed individually or linked continuously. The ceramic light emitting surface also acts as the heatsink eliminating the need for additional bulky components. The light weight Airelight™ Linear SC 1.0 is also offered in a 0.5 width.

Airelight™ Linear ES 0.5 Directly Embedded in Wood

The ability of Airelight™ Luminaires to be directly embedded into any building material allows for a wide variety of potential applications. One east coast bar utilized this feature to integrate lighting directly into its bar shelf. While conventional lighting may reach temperatures that inhibit direct contact with wood, Airelight™ Luminaires dissipate heat through the ceramic light emitting surface making this concern a non-issue. Measuring just 1/4 of an inch thin, the profile of Airelight™ Linears require minimal material removal to accommodate them in an embedding project. The sleek design of the Airelight™ Linear lends itself to a beautifully smooth finish. The photos below illustrate how the light emitting ceramic of the Airelight™ Linear lays perfectly flush with the wood shelf.

Selective Materials Sourcing
Airelight™ Luminaires are comprised of aluminum and ceramic and free of fossil based materials. The light emitting ceramic surface of all Airelight™ Luminaires also acts as the diffuser, and the heat sink. This intentional avoidance of plastics allows Airelight™ Luminaires to offer the desired amount of light without contributing harmful gasses to the environment. By contrast, a typical competitor's light source uses acrylic, or other plastics, for the diffuser resulting in a substantial amount of outgassing of plastics.

Minimalist Design
By sheer design, Airelight™ Luminaires utilize 50x less raw materials than conventional light sources (when fixture weight is measured in a typical installation). This fundamentally distinguishing design means that not only energy efficiency is attained, but efficiency of natural resources as well.

Recyclable

The exposed light emitting ceramic surface is capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 3500° F which translates to unmatched fire safety. The International Living Future Institute's (ILFI) Living Building Challenge is the world's most rigorous proven performance standard for buildings. The ILFI’s Declare program is a product ingredients initiative designed to expand transparency in the building market and shape a healthier, more sustainable environment for all.

Declare offers a “nutrition label” for building products identifying where a product comes from, what it is made of and where it goes at the end of its life. There are three declaration status designations: Declare, LBC Compliant and LBC Red List Free. Of these designations, LBC Red List Free is the most stringent and requires the disclosure of all ingredients, none of which can be on the Living Building Challenge Red List.
